2 families, 1200 miles, 6 motorbikes, 3 countries, 1 dream

Moor Instruments Ltd would like to offer a huge congratulations to Sian Falder, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, after safely returning home from her epic fundraising trip from Kathmandu to Dhaka. Sian, her husband and two children set off on this 1200 mile sponsored motorbike ride in October to raise money to help burn victims in collaboration with Interburns, a global network of burns professionals whose aim is to drastically decrease the suffering, death and disability caused by burn injuries around the world.

Sian’s family were joined by fellow Interburns members Tom Potokar, (Burns and Plastic Surgeon at The Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, Swansea) his wife Dominique and their two children. The route from Nepalese capital Kathmandu to the capital of Bangladesh Dhaka included visits to hospitals and villages affected by burns.

The journey started in Kathmandu, where Tom and Sian spoke at the Nepal Society for Plastic Surgery Conference. They then travelled South to Janakpur and visited Janakpur Zonal Hospital, where Interburns has taught Essential Burn Care courses and where they are helping the Hospital meet International Standards for burn care. Their journey then took them into Bihar, India passing through Patma to Bodi Gaya, then Jamshedpur and onwards to Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Interburns is an international volunteer network of expert health professionals working to transform global burn care and prevention through education, training, research and capacity-building. The majority of Interburns’ work is carried out by volunteers, so all donations will go directly towards their on-going work. They have now been requested to set up a training centre in Ghana and to provide on-going support and training in many other countries, including Ethiopia, Cote d’Ivoire, Uganda, Kenya and Burma. They have already raised an impressive amount of money for this great cause, but with a fundraising target of £100,000, any donations are still welcome and greatly appreciated.
