The Department of Plastic Surgery at the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, began teaching in 1995 & was the first fully fledged department in Punjab (the 2nd in Pakistan). It is one of the few units in Pakistan where micro surgery is being performed, and micro-vascular free flap was first performed in Mayo Hospital in this department in 2000. The Ward has 60 beds: 20 beds allocated for acute burn emergencies and 40 beds for reconstructive plastic surgery. In 2005 more than 800 operations were performed.
